Camp returns to QPR as Forest deal stalls

Goalkeeper Lee Camp has returned to Loftus Road at the end of his three month loan spell with Nottingham Forest.

Forest had hoped to make the deal permanent and QPR are willing to sell for a fee in the region of £500,000. While the transfer fee is not a problem Camp’s wages are – he was one of QPR’s top earners when he joined on a three year deal with an additional year option 18 months ago and Forest are unable to match, or even get near, the terms.

Camp was almost recalled by Rangers prior to the Boxing Day game at Charlton when it became clear the permanent deal was stalling but negotiations between the clubs resulted in him staying for the twqo Christmas fixtures. Camp probably wishes he had not bothered – he hardly covered himself in glory in a 4-2 defeat by Doncaster on Boxing Day, a match that cost manager Colin Calderwood his job at the City Ground, and then had two own goals put past him at Norwich two days later although Forest did manage to win that game.

Forest have now said they are suspending negotiations with the keeper until a new manager has been appointed.

For whatever reason, and the rumours are wide and varied, Camp has little immediate future in the QPR team despite the change of manager but with the man that released him from Derby Billy Davies the early favourite for the Forest job his future is now well and truly undecided. In the meantime he is fit and available for QPR’s game against Burnley at Loftus Road this Saturday.

Camp said: "The manager who wanted me has left the football club, the club will appoint a new man and he will have his own ideas. Colin Calderwood wanted me to be here, but the next man might not. I will go back to QPR. That is where my future lies now.

"Nottingham Forest have had an opportunity to sign me and have stalled. Now it has resulted in me going back. I would be surprised if I came back. I wouldn't say it is a closed book. But a lot of decisions have to be made, not least who is going to be the next manager. He will have his own opinions and I can't predict the future. I enjoy playing and the fans have taken to me. It has also allowed me to be close to my family in the East Midlands.

"If the opportunity came, I would strongly look at it. But it is out of my hands. We will see what happens in the future. But there are bigger decisions to be made at Forest than whether they sign me."

Camp played 15 times for Forest, conceding 18 goals and saving last minute point winning penalties at Derby County and Bristol City in the process.
